Brick-Look Tile Patterns: Design Ideas and Tips

Iâm a renovation supply hoarder. I have been known to keep boxes of tile in our garage with no immediate plans to use them, and to even haul them from house to house without a plan because I know that one day Iâll put them to use. Lo and behold, the time has finally come: Iâve now used our brick-look tile in two different patterns in two different rooms and I canât even decide which one I like best because Iâm obsessed with both!
Herringbone

The OG was, of course, our kitchen makeover. We laid this brick-look tile (the New York Soho brick from Floor & Decor) in a herringbone pattern on our kitchen floors to fulfill a vision Iâd had for close to a year for that room, and it turned out so good.

This pattern was a bit tricky to pull off but I wanted to replicate the real herringbone brick floors Iâd seen as inspo in so many other spaces so we just went for it. Here’s a post on how we did this flooring.
Basketweave

We had a few boxes of the tile leftover and I was adamant on keeping them, so we stored them away for a few months until it came time to sell our rental house. We had painted the tile floor in the houseâs bathroom as a temporary solution, which lasted a few years but it really needed to be redone before listing for sale.

So, I busted out my leftover brick-look tile boxes and got it done, this time using a basketweave pattern to try something new. Alex was skeptical about the pattern (whatâs new), but I love how it turned out.
The basketweave is easy to keep track of and requires very few cuts which means it would be a good one for a beginner to try.

We never got to live with and enjoy this flooring since we listed the house just about as soon as we were done, but Iâm storing this pattern away to try again somewhere in the future. I also still have a few more boxes of the brick tile so who knows where Iâll take it next.

What do you think? Which brick-look tile pattern do you prefer: the herringbone or basketweave?
