Where to Find Inexpensive Rugs

Obviously there are a lot of things wrong with our society, but one of our most egregious faults is normalizing how expensive home decor is. It is normal, but not acceptable, that a single throw pillow could cost like $30 on the budget end. I don’t care how many influencers on Instagram tag Studio McGee about how beautiful and inexpensive their Target line is, I still probably won’t be buying a $90 desk lamp until I see that bad boy on sale at Dirt Cheap next season. It shouldn’t be so difficult to find inexpensive rugs.

All that being said, especially this last year, we’ve all come to learn just how important it is to have a home you love. That’s kind of the whole reason behind this blog. We build, craft and make what makes our home happy and functional. We (well, okay, just I) have thrifted and upcycled, scored deals at yard sales and discount stores, and spent countless hours online shopping when I’ve been trapped under a sleeping baby.

So, here’s our guide to the best places to find inexpensive rugs:

Etsy

I love Etsy. I love being able to shop small businesses at home, being able to find unique home decor other people won’t have, and searching for that oddly specific but perfect gift because it has everything.

Rugs are no exception. The little turkish rug in our budget bathroom remodel is from Etsy and came all the way from Turkey in about a week!

Forewarning, some of the Turkish rugs on Etsy (just like anywhere, really) can get pretty expensive, but the little ones for a bathroom, entryway, doorstep, hallway or in front of the kitchen sink can be pretty reasonable.

Amazon

I know, Amazon is the devil, but damn isn’t it so convenient? I bought our hallway rug, nursery rug and the layered jute rug for our bathroom from Amazon, and am always adding new ones to our list for the inevitable time one of our area rugs gets ruined by a pet, umm, accident, or a spilled drink.

RugsUSA

This is usually our go-to for the bigger area rugs because I don’t think I’ve gotten one for more than about $250 (and I usually buy them at about 8’x10’ which is huge). Pro tip: Use the Google Chrome extension Honey to automatically search for coupon codes, because RugsUSA is always doing deals.

Discount stores – HomeGoods, Tuesday Morning, etc

I usually have better luck with smaller rugs like for the porch or by the kitchen sink at these kinds of stores, but the HomeGoods and TJ Maxx stores I’ve been to in both Louisiana and Florida have some pretty affordable bigger ones, too.

Obviously I can’t share any links on these guys, but happy hunting!

So there you go, our favorite places to find inexpensive rugs so I can afford to have a nice house and eat dinner, what a concept. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter for more DIYs and home hacks, and follow along on Instagram!

  1. With two elderly dogs who are “slipping”, if you get my drift, we only buy rugs that are machine washable. They used to be hard to find, except for Ruggables, which I have bought, but they’re too expensive, Amazon and Wal-Mart, and even Home Depot now carry lots of machine washable large area rugs for very low prices, plus smaller washable rugs, as well. I will never buy another rug I can’t throw in the washer again. Now if the dogs make a mistake, I clean it up, spray it with enzyme spray, then throw it in the washer. If it’s my 8×10, I may just let the enzyme do it’s job for a few accidents, then wash it.

    1. We’ve also been on the hunt for good washable rugs! They really can add up, especially when you’re trying to get a bigger one for somewhere like the living room. We’ve had good luck with Folex from Amazon for spot removal as well, hopefully that helps with your “seniors” 🙂
