7 Easy Weekend DIY Projects to Transform Your Home
Weekend DIY projects can be transformative for your home without taking a ton of time or bankrupting you. From updating popcorn ceilings with timeless beadboard to building a farmhouse outdoor table for the patio, these are some of our favorite one-weekend projects in each of the homes we’ve owned.

Cover popcorn ceiling with beadboard
Ev-er-y-one HATES popcorn ceilings, right? We’ve had popcorn ceilings in most rooms of every house we’ve owned and have looked for creative ways to update them without the tedious — messy — process of scraping them. And thankfully we found a simple and classic solution.
Beadboard ceilings are thin wooden, or MDF, boards with beaded edges. Covering popcorn ceilings with beadboard gives a charming and timeless touch to interiors, creating a visually appealing and textured ceiling design.
Farmhouse outdoor table
This was one of our first multi-day DIY projects and a classic pandemic-era bored-at-home build for us. We loved it so much — and so did the buyer of our house, too, because she wrote into the contract the table had to stay with it.
We built this outdoor farmhouse table for our patio in about one weekend and this table even spurred a secondary list of projects we wanted to do to make the rest of the backyard as nice.
Window shutters
I love the cute, cottagey look of our painted white brick house, but if I’m honest it does lack a lil’ character now: enter these moody green DIY window shutters. The build portion was really quick – a weekend project for us even with two little kids at home, so I bet it could be knocked out in a day or so with undivided attention.
Plank accent wall
This master bedroom accent wall in our first house was long in the making but man, was she worth the wait. Until we did this project, our house palette was pretty light and neutral – white kitchen, greige walls, wood accents.
Between the color choice and cutting the planks thicker than most shiplap-type walls, we got the more modern accent look we were going for and we spent weeks afterwards casually walking by our open bedroom door to marvel at it multiple times a day.
Stencil a concrete patio
Painting and stenciling this concrete patio made a huge difference, only took one sunny weekend to get done, and is 100% something I would recommend for anyone wanting to freshen up their patio before summer.
Cottage peg rail shelf
One of the finishing steps in our months long kitchen renovation included making this DIY cottage peg rail shelf. It’s the perfect addition to an otherwise blank wall and it adds some functional but aesthetic storage. The best part? The materials only cost about $65 and can easily be finished in a day, or a weekend if you’re a beginner and taking your time.
Faux frame TV
If you, like me, like the look of fancy frame TVs but don’t want to spend $1,500 on a television, then this DIY faux TV frame tutorial is for you. We love this because it perfectly compliments our DIY overgrouted stone fireplace.
